FaxProof  ›  Port your number

Bring your fax number with you

Keep the number printed on your letterhead, your forms and every referral pad in the building. Porting is free and your old line keeps working until the switch completes.

What you'll need

The most common cause of a rejected port is a name or address that doesn't match the losing carrier's records character for character. Copy it from the bill rather than typing from memory — even "Suite 4" versus "Ste 4" can bounce it.

How long it takes

Typically 7 to 14 business days for US and Canadian numbers. Toll-free can take longer. International ports vary by country and some aren't possible at all — we'll tell you before you start rather than after.

What happens to your old line

Nothing, until the port completes. Your existing service keeps receiving faxes the entire time. On the day the port lands, incoming faxes start arriving in FaxProof instead, and you can cancel the old account.

Don't cancel your old service first. If the number is disconnected before the port, it can be released back to the carrier's pool, the port will fail, and you may not get the number back.

What it costs

Porting is free. You aren't billed for the number on FaxProof until it's live here. Your old provider may charge their own cancellation or port-out fee — that's between you and them.

Start the port

In the app: Settings → My Numbers → Port a Number You Already Have. Fill in the details, upload the bill, submit. You'll see the status move through submitted, in review and active, and we notify you the moment it goes live.

Not sure whether your number can move? Send it to us and we'll check before you fill anything in.
